Batten Disease Virtual Half Marathon

An other virtual race that I had signed up for early in the year was the Batten Disease Virtual Half Marathon.  According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, "Batten disease is a fatal, inherited disorder of the nervous system that typically begins in childhood. Early symptoms of this disorder usually appear between the ages of 5 and 10 years, when parents or physicians may notice a previously normal child has begun to develop vision problems or seizures. In some cases the early signs are subtle, taking the form of personality and behavior changes, slow learning, clumsiness, or stumbling. Over time, affected children suffer mental impairment, worsening seizures, and progressive loss of sight and motor skills. Eventually, children with Batten disease become blind, bedridden, and demented. Batten disease is often fatal by the late teens or twenties."

I have seen pictures of several kids on Facebook who have this disease and how they are taken so soon from this worlds because of this horrible disease.  I felt compelled to at least sign up for a race to raise awareness and raise money for this cause.

After running a total distance of 13.1 miles in a week for Breast Cancer, I decided to do the same thing for this race. This week I managed to run 21 miles!!  I have not ran that many miles in quite some time!!  It feels really good to run this many miles!  I have finally found my running groove again and I am excited to run!! This is also the perfect weather to run in!  It was a bit cold this morning, 27 degrees when I woke up, so I waited until about 1:00 to run.  It warmed up to about 40 degrees and sunny so it was absolutely lovely. I was pretty cold to start, but warmed up after about a mile!!  This was such an awesome run!  I got in 4.5 miles today so my total reached 21 miles.  21 miles for Batten Disease this week!!  I exceeded my goal of just the 13.1 so I am super proud of myself!!  Not to mention that I needed to run off the Halloween candy I ate last night and today!!!  It wasn't that much, but I felt like I really needed to push myself!!

It was such a beautiful day!!!  This is perfect fall running weather!!  So happy with my running today!!

This is my pretty cool medal!!

I'm getting my mojo back and I am excited to run my next race which is the Frosty Rock Challenge 12K in Fort Atkinson!  It's a partial trail run which is interesting!  I'm not used to running trails, but I really liked this race the first time last year and can't wait to do it again!!

Happy Fall Ya'll!!!

Be Strong, You Never Know Who You Are Inspiring!!!

Run On!!

Project: Garage 2016 Part 4: Trusses, roof work, framing, and a new back door

I am so stinking excited about the work that has been done on my garage this week!  I am so incredibly thankful for our builders (Hometown Remodeling, LLC)!  They have put in a lot of work and it has been incredibly hot this week.  I love the sun and I love to lay out in the sun, but even I didn’t want to go out this week!! Here’s what went down this week: Monday, July 18, 2016 :  The trusses were delivered while the kids and I were at swim lessons.  That was all that we thought was going to happen today.  Luckily the builders finished their other job up early and headed to our house to get started on setting the trusses.  They got about half of them set up before quitting for the day.   Tuesday, July 19, 2016 :  The builders arrived at 8:30 am to start on finishing the trusses, putting the wood down for the roof, and  tar paper to get ready for the shingles.  These 3 guys worked super hard all day.  They di...

When Life Throws You Lemons--My Comeback

I know I haven't’ been the best blogger as of late.  Honestly, I haven’t felt like sharing much of what I’ve been going through the past year.  Maybe I felt ashamed for struggling so much and wanted to continue to give off the persona that everything was perfect.  I’m not perfect. Far from it. But that’s what makes me real and human. I think that’s what people want to see and read about.  Not everyone is a fitness model or perfect wife and mother. So here it is! My comeback to blogging. It’s going to be real and raw and everything I’ve kept inside.   Last year when we returned from our Disney vacation (June 2017), I started back into training for my 3rd Madison Marathon.  I wanted a PR so badly for this race. I wanted so badly to be under 5 hours. My training sucked! With EJ starting peewee football and my class load at work (I’ll get into that later), every time I thought about this race, I dreaded it.  Honestly, I was falling more and mo...

A trip to a local running store with a friend & A Training Update

Well, I finally did it!  It only took me over 4 years to do it but I finally was properly fitted for running shoes!!  (And it’s only taken me a month and a half to blog about it!!  Darn Garage project and heading back to school! LOL (see previous post for more of my excuses!)) On Tuesday, July 26, my awesome friend Michelle and I traveled to Fleet Feet Sports in Middleton.  Michelle and I work together at one of the middle schools I teach at.  She is honestly the best co-worker in the world!  We totally get each other which is awesome and makes going to work that much more enjoyable!  We taught summer school together but I haven’t seen her since summer school ended.  It was great catching up on things on the ride from Milton where she picked me up to Middleton.  I honestly haven’t laughed that much in probably 3 weeks!  It’s always great to hang out with my buddy!   Anyway, we arrived at the store and looked around for a bit ...
