My Boy Turned 6!!! (and shoe news)

On Saturday April 23, we had my son’s 6th birthday party!  It was his first birthday party with friends from school.  It was a lot to get ready for, but it was so worth it to see how excited he was that his friends were coming over to his house.  It was awesome!

I only scheduled his party with friends from 1-3 and that 2 hours was more than enough time for them to have some fun.  They ran around in the yard playing, played some games that I organized, we ate snacks, sang “Happy Birthday”, ate cupcakes and ice cream, ran around some more, and opened presents.  Luckily, it was such a beautiful day that the kids were able to play outside and just be kids.  It was so much fun seeing them interact with each other.  I can see why his 4K teacher is exhausted at the end of the day!  These kids have a lot of energy!!  I was worried that I was going to be totally overwhelmed, but it was a lot of fun having a house and yard full of little kids.  I’m so used to middle school students all day long that I forgot how much fun little kids can be!

EJ had so much fun and can’t wait to have more play dates with his friends.  Maddie, too, is really excited for her party this August, as I told her that she can invite friends from school as well.  She’s already making her list of invites and thinking about her theme!  She’s such a planner just like me.

One of EJ’s favorite new presents is his new bike from Gramma and Poppa.  My big growing boy has certainly outgrown his cute little 12 inch bike.  He has now been upgraded to an 18 inch bike.

He did get a new helmet as well!  DO not fear, he does ride with a helmet!!

In the midst of all this party planning and prepping, I finally managed to figure out my shoe and arch issues.  I finally decided to re-lace my shoes so that I was skipping laces over my arch.  And low and behold, this actually worked!!  I took my New Balance out for a test on Friday last week for 3 miles.  Absolutely NO arch pain! I couldn’t believe it!  I was so excited about it, I took them for my long runs both Saturday and Sunday!!

You can see my laces better in the second picture, but I seriously cannot believe that this is all it took to fix my foot pain.  I’m still a little curious however, as to why this happened.  I have never had foot pain like this before.  I’m wondering if it has something to do with my plantar fasciitis or if something happened to this foot when I fell that morning a month and a half ago.  For right now though, I am going to quit dissecting it and just be thankful that I can run in both pairs of shoes without foot pain.  I re-laced my Hoka’s and they have been perfect since then!  Such a relief!!

Tuesday April 26 was my big boy’s actual birthday!  He entered our world at 8:55 am and has been nothing but fun every since.  He can be a total pain in the butt with how stubborn he is, but he is cuddly, caring, kind, determined, and 1000% all BOY!  I wouldn’t change him for anything in the world.  Lucky for me, I was able to take a personal day that day.  I got in an awesome 8 mile run that morning and then got everyone ready for the day.  Since EJ goes to 4K in the afternoons, we took Maddie to school in the morning and then came home where I let him play Madden NFL on the PS3 for most of the morning while I got the necessary housework completed.  We played Lincoln Logs together and ate lunch before going to see sissy before EJ had to go to school.  We visited with her for a few minutes at lunch and then I took him around to the other side of the building for his class.

I can’t believe how big he’s gotten--even in just a year!  He looks so grown up already!!  I want my baby back!  Well, maybe, he is pretty fun now that he’s 6!!

He’s STAR student this week as well and was able to bring in his favorite snacks all week.  Since I was off on Tuesday, I brought cupcakes to his classroom and was able to stay for a few minutes while they ate.  I even got to see one of their baby ducklings starting to hatch!  This is so cool!  I am so glad he gets to experience this!  He told me later that the duckling finally did hatch and they were able to see him out of the egg.  Now they get to name him and eventually once he dries, they can hold him.  EJ’s whole class is super excited!  Someone was pretty excited about having his class sing “Happy Birthday” to him as well!

After school, we played on the playground for a little bit and then came home to relax before dinner.  EJ wanted to go to Klig’s which is a bar and restaurant in our town.  He loves going there because you can sit and eat in a real train car!  The kids like the chicken strips there as well, and we always let them get a kiddie cocktail from the bar so they think that’s pretty cool.  I get to eat the cherries, which makes me happy.  Afterward, we came home to have cupcakes and ice cream again!  When it’s a birthday, you can never sing “Happy Birthday” or have cupcakes and ice cream too much!

It was a wonderful day and I am just so excited that EJ had a really good birthday experience.  There is nothing better in the world than seeing your kid happy because they know how loved and special they are to you.  That is really all I ever want for my kids--too let them know how special they are to me and that I love them more then words can express.  I think that’s what every parent wants for their kids!

It was a busy weekend and a busy start to the week, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing!

How do you celebrate your kids’ birthdays?

RUN ON,

Laura

Project: Garage 2016 Part 4: Trusses, roof work, framing, and a new back door

I am so stinking excited about the work that has been done on my garage this week!  I am so incredibly thankful for our builders (Hometown Remodeling, LLC)!  They have put in a lot of work and it has been incredibly hot this week.  I love the sun and I love to lay out in the sun, but even I didn’t want to go out this week!! Here’s what went down this week: Monday, July 18, 2016 :  The trusses were delivered while the kids and I were at swim lessons.  That was all that we thought was going to happen today.  Luckily the builders finished their other job up early and headed to our house to get started on setting the trusses.  They got about half of them set up before quitting for the day.   Tuesday, July 19, 2016 :  The builders arrived at 8:30 am to start on finishing the trusses, putting the wood down for the roof, and  tar paper to get ready for the shingles.  These 3 guys worked super hard all day.  They di...

Inspired Endurance Giveaway

I HAVE SOMETHING SUPER AWESOME TO SHARE!! READ ON TO FIND OUT MORE!!! Several times during the past 3 weeks I have been wearing these 2 awesome bracelets from Inspired Endurance.  It was brought to my attention about 4 weeks ago that they were looking for bloggers to wear their jewelry and write a review about them.  I was honored to be able to do this.  I asked for the 13.1 charm for myself and the run charm to give away.  I have been wearing both to see what it would be like to wear multiple bracelets from them.  I love them!  I love them so much that I am actually going to purchase the 26.2 charm to wear with my 13.1 charm so that I can wear 2 of them all the time!   They are so comfortable to wear that I hardly notice that I have them on!  I am a teacher so I am running around all day working with kids, working the copy machine, and typing on the computer.  Normally dangly bracelets will end up driving me crazy about halfway...

MADISON MARATHON 26.2~I AM A MARATHONER!!!!

OMG!!!!!   I DID IT!!! I RAN A MARATHON!!!  I AM A MARATHONER!!!!  I seriously cannot believe I did it! I am still in shock days later! I completed a marathon!  I didn’t DNF! I wanted to several times towards the end, but thanks to some awesome new running friends, I made it through the entire 26.2 miles!  I feel ridiculously sore, but I am the happiest and proudest I think I have ever been of myself!  I DID IT!!!!   I was so nervous waking up this morning!  I didn’t fully know what to expect since it was my first full, but I have run so many other races that I just used my normal routine to get myself going.  I ate breakfast and got myself dressed, then went on to waking up the rest of my crew.  My awesome Mother-in-law spent the night since we had to be up and going so early.  I wanted to leave the house by 5:45 but we never leave when I want to.  Getting my crew up and going is quite a feat this early in the morning...
