7 Things Sunday 5-22-16

So I follow several other bloggers and one thing that a few of them do is a 5 Things Friday Blog where they tell about 5 things that happened during that week.  I thought I would give this a try this week just to see how it goes.  Except our week was so busy that I didn’t have time to get the blog up and ready by Friday so I decided to do a 7 Things Sunday Blog instead.  So here it is!  My 7 things from this week!

  1. On Sunday we began the clean up on the side of our house to get ready for our garage to be built!  Moving the bricks was a lot of work but the kids helped so it wasn’t too bad.  Yes, it’s true!  We do not have a garage!  We bought our house knowing that it didn’t have a garage.  There were so many other selling points that this was not a big deal for us.  We finally decided that we really need a garage now that we have a newer car, the kids have bikes and scooters, and we just seem to collect more and more stuff.  Plus some of the kids baby toys I want to keep for the grandkids eventually and they have a ton of memories so I don’t want to part with them and our basement is getting quite full of stuff.  Building the garage will allow us to open up the attic which the previous owners sealed when they installed the wood burning stove.  The whole project will be a godsend when it’s done.  Our basement will be more organized.  I will have an attic to store stuff.  My hubby will have a garage to work in and his shed will be just for lawn stuff.  It’s going to free up a lot of space and make our house even more of a home than it already is.  I’m nervous and excited!!

Here’s what the side of my house looks like now that all the junk has been cleared out!

  1. This has been my last tough training week before the Madison Twilight 10K and Half Marathon weekend extravaganza in a week.  Sunday I ran 10.5 miles, Tuesday was speed drills, Thursday was hill repeats, and then this weekend will be the last long runs before next weekend’s fun. My strength training has been awesome this week and I am feeling stronger all over. I still need to work on my core and cleaning up my diet a bit more, but sometime you just have to live your life and enjoy licking the frosting off the spatula!

These were my 2 hardest workouts this week.

  1. Because my girlie’s birthday is in August, her teacher came up with a schedule for May to celebrate all the summer birthdays in her class.  My girlies day was this Friday.  She requested yellow cupcakes with vanilla frosting colored green, which is her favorite color.  There are 20 kids in her class but she requested extra so she could pass them out to other teachers in the building. I ended up baking and frosting 30 cupcakes for her to take to school.  Because I had extra cake batter, I poured the rest in a pan for a cake. Now we have our own cake at home to enjoy as well!  Oh boy!  Why do I torture myself like this??

So far we haven’t actually eaten too much of the cake!!
  1. Friday was also the Colorathon at Maddie and EJ’s school.  It’s an awesome fundraiser for the school and so much fun for the kids and parents.  It’s like a mini-Color Me Rad!! We all ran again this year!  Yes, even my hubby ran with EJ!  Maddie and I ran together!  We had to run around their school block twice to make a mile and were splashed with color along the way.  Then we all gathered on the playground to do one giant color bomb with the color packets we received for participating in the run. We were totally covered in color after that! We stayed and hung out on the playground for awhile before heading home to shower and have dinner!  It was such an awesome evening!!

  1. Being a Sweatpink Ambassador I get the opportunity to review products.  I have been selected to review Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder for our #summerstrong campaign.  I’m so excited!  This stuff sounds amazing!!  I’ll be trying out their vanilla, chocolate, chia, and protein and fiber protein powders this summer!  I can’t wait to try them!  I’m already trying out my new shaker bottle!!  @BobsRedMill @FitApproach #SummerStrong #SweatPink!

Isn’t my photobomber cute???

  1. Saturday after my long run I planted the flowers in my planters around the house and hung up my hanging baskets around our beautiful pine tree.  I love it when my house is all set up for the summer and looks amazing.  Makes me want to just sit outside on my deck and relax all day long every day!!

Aren’t they beautiful??

  1. Our first bonfire of the year was Saturday night.  My husband is a bit of pyro and loves to really get the flames going.  I think all of our neighbors think we are crazy!  The kids love it and so does my over-grown child!  LOL  It’s a lot of fun relaxing by the fire and toasting marshmallows for s'mores. Perfect way to start the summer season!  (Yes!  I had 2 s'mores! I’m human and they were delicious!)

It’s been an awesome week and I can’t wait to see what this week has in store for us.  Hubby is home on vacation all week and we are having 6 trees come down on Monday!  Lots of exciting things happening at the Steele house!!!

Until next time!!

RUN ON!!

When Life Throws You Lemons--My Comeback

I know I haven't’ been the best blogger as of late.  Honestly, I haven’t felt like sharing much of what I’ve been going through the past year.  Maybe I felt ashamed for struggling so much and wanted to continue to give off the persona that everything was perfect.  I’m not perfect. Far from it. But that’s what makes me real and human. I think that’s what people want to see and read about.  Not everyone is a fitness model or perfect wife and mother. So here it is! My comeback to blogging. It’s going to be real and raw and everything I’ve kept inside.   Last year when we returned from our Disney vacation (June 2017), I started back into training for my 3rd Madison Marathon.  I wanted a PR so badly for this race. I wanted so badly to be under 5 hours. My training sucked! With EJ starting peewee football and my class load at work (I’ll get into that later), every time I thought about this race, I dreaded it.  Honestly, I was falling more and mo...

Spring Break Fun!!!

Spring Break was sure fun and interesting!!  Carpet cleaning, a trip to Ikea, egg coloring, Easter Egg Scramble, and all the fun of Easter morning have made this a memorable spring break for sure. I have truly loved being home with my kiddos but there were times, especially Sunday afternoon after too much Easter candy, that I was definitely ready to head back to work and for them to head back to school. Monday was the only day my hubby had to work as he took vacation the rest of the week.  So the kids and I did some random stuff around the house and ran some errands.  Maddie went to Menards to pick out paint for her desk so she could paint it with Poppa.  While they were doing that, I took EJ to get his haircut and then to Shopko to get some totes for under the bed storage, the kids’ projects and their photo albums.  I have recently switched from using photo albums to using photo boxes.  You can fit in so many more photos and still have the ability to wr...

2 Weeks of March Reflections

Well it’s been an interesting start to March.  I apologize for no blog last week.  It was a stressful week for me and didn’t have anything positive to say so I knew that would be reflected in my blog.  And that’s not how I want my blog to come across.   So let me recap what happened that first week of March.  The week started out just fine until I decided to check on the status of my license renewal through DPI.  Because I have 2 licenses; one as a teacher and one as a reading specialist, I had to renew both of them.  Well my teaching license is fine and will most likely be approved and renewed based on my teaching experience and my PDP (professional development plan).  My reading specialist license is another story.  It is not being approved right now as I didn’t complete the correct PDP as DPI classifies reading specialist as an administrative license.  I knew this, I just didn’t realize that my PDP would be any different.  I ...
