It has been quite the week! I’ve got some really good workouts in and also had to deal with some pain in my left ankle. It’s funny because I have no idea how I hurt my ankle. I really have no idea! It was fine on Monday and then started to hurt a bit on my run on Tuesday. Tuesday, it seemed to progressively get worse throughout the day. I iced it at night and tried to stay off of it as much as I could. Wednesday was a little better. I taped it and wore flats to school. I tried to do as little walking as possible on this day as well. Thursday’s run was amazing and I had very little pain. Friday wasn’t too bad either. It’s in a very weird spot also. It’s on the inside of my ankle right below that bone that sticks out. I don’t know if I jarred it running. I sometimes slip into the ditch in the mornings when cars won’t move over for me. I don’t know if I’ve done that one too many times and it finally hurts or if it’s something else. A colleague of mine suggested running on the opposite side of the road once in awhile. I usually run against traffic, but I tried running with traffic on Thursday and it seemed to help at least a little bit anyway. I will have to alternate sides more often. I probably should alternate my route in the morning also. I always run the same way and that might have an effect on my ankle. Plus it’s just nice to change things up once in awhile! I’ll try to work on that for next week.
My strength training has been really good this week. I did P90X three days this week with some extra leg work each day as well. Monday was shoulders and arms, Wednesday was legs, and Friday was chest and back. I have still been taking it pretty easy with these workouts and not lifting too heavy too soon. I know I need to gradually build it back up. The upper body workouts were fine; it was leg day that was a struggle due to my ankle. Wednesday morning my ankle hurt quite a bit. I could hardly touch it, it hurt so bad. I had a hard time sleeping Tuesday night also which didn’t help. I managed to do my best with the moves and got a nice sweat going anyway. I was extra careful with moves that required balancing on one foot. I also haven’t done my single leg deadlifts this week. I miss them! I will get back to it. I just need to make sure my ankle is feeling better before I push it too much. I don’t need to have a serious injury. Training season is literally right around the corner once again!!
My runs have been really good this week. I did 8 on Sunday; 6 miles on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday; and 10 miles on Sunday. Thursday’s 6 miles was probably one of the best runs I have had since marathon training. I ran my 6 miles nice and strong the whole time; taking minimal walking breaks. I had mile times under 12 minutes the whole time, which I haven’t had since before the marathon. I think my last mile was like 11:07!! For me, that’s pretty fast! It felt completely amazing. Sunday’s 10 miles was amazing as well. I quickly realized after I headed out that I had completely overdressed! It was 60 degrees in Wisconsin in December!!! I was drenched within the first 5 miles in capris and a long sleeve shirt. I ended up stopping after about 7 miles to take my hat and shirt off! I couldn’t believe I was running in my sports bra in December. I couldn’t believe I was confident enough to even think to do that in the first place!! I have loose skin and a little bit of my mom belly still so I am not 100% comfortable wearing just a sports bra out running or even in my basement for that matter. I’ve never worn a bikini in my life! It is my goal to feel confident enough to do this sooner rather than later! I am working hard at it and quite honestly don’t really care what others thought of me running in my sports bra today.
Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to be just as confident! Even if you are not where you would like to be, be confident in where you are and where you have come from. We are all a work in progress! Be proud of you and your awesomeness!! You deserve to feel confident and special! You deserve to give yourself the best! Dress up, show up, and do your best every single day! You are so worth it!!!
Here are some pictures of my week of working out! And if you are looking for gifts for a runner, any type of running gear and money for race registrations are the perfect gifts!!
Until next time, Run on, my friends!!
And always remember:
Laura
