Workouts and More Reflections Dec. 27-Jan. 2

I can’t believe the last week of the year is over.  I had so much fun with the kids and relaxing with family.  It was a great little vacation.  I’m not quite ready for it to be over yet.

Here’s what my week of workouts looked like:

Sun--run 10 miles outside
Mon--back and biceps plus some legs
Tues--treadmill run 8 miles
Wed--legs with extra legs and some bicep curls
Thurs--treadmill run 7 miles
Fri--REST
Sat--run 8 miles outside

My workouts this week were pretty good.  I enjoyed sleeping in a little bit and getting in some extra moves.  I still had to get up early to get hubby off to work, but it was nice knowing that I could send him off and then head back downstairs for more.  It was also nice that the kids slept in and I could take a nap after breakfast if I felt tired.  I could also spend some time for myself in the mornings before they woke up.  I got to watch what I wanted on TV and enjoy my coffee in peace and quiet. It was very nice.  I did end up taking Friday off since we stayed up really late for New Year's Eve and ended up sleeping in really late.  We played games in our jammies all day and just hung out. It was really fun and relaxing.  I finally got my butt outside on Saturday to run.  The roads were still pretty icy, so I’m going to have to switch up my normal routes, but that’s what I get for living in Wisconsin.

I know I posted my goals for 2016 earlier this week.  I purposely didn’t post a yearly mileage goal because I tend to get overwhelmed when I post a lengthy goal like that and I’m not sure how many miles I am going to be able to run this year.  Last year I totally overdid my miles early in the year and that is what brought on my plantar fasciitis.  So I’m worried about overdoing it again.  I would love to be able to run 2016 miles in 2016 since I did actually get really close by running 1985 miles this year.  I haven’t signed up for the runtheyear2016.com challenge yet and I don’t know if I will, but I did set a goal on Runkeeper to run 2016 miles this year.  I want to see how close I can get to this number.  I kinda want to register for the challenge though, since I can get a t-shirt and a finisher medal.  I can partner up with someone, but I am so competitive that I would love to do this all on my own.   I don’t know.  I really like bling!!  I’ll decide soon, but until then, I am just going to enjoy running however many miles I want.  I love running and I love challenging myself, but I don’t want to out run my love of the sport. I feel like I have been a little burnt out after my marathon training and I am finally getting back to loving running.  Even on the treadmill at times!  I am excited for my races this year and to achieve my fitness goals.  Whether or not I make this goal of running 2016 miles this year, I am going to be happy with however many miles I run and the fitness goals that I achieve this year.

What are your fitness and / or running goals this year??

Project: Garage 2016 Part 4: Trusses, roof work, framing, and a new back door

I am so stinking excited about the work that has been done on my garage this week!  I am so incredibly thankful for our builders (Hometown Remodeling, LLC)!  They have put in a lot of work and it has been incredibly hot this week.  I love the sun and I love to lay out in the sun, but even I didn’t want to go out this week!! Here’s what went down this week: Monday, July 18, 2016 :  The trusses were delivered while the kids and I were at swim lessons.  That was all that we thought was going to happen today.  Luckily the builders finished their other job up early and headed to our house to get started on setting the trusses.  They got about half of them set up before quitting for the day.   Tuesday, July 19, 2016 :  The builders arrived at 8:30 am to start on finishing the trusses, putting the wood down for the roof, and  tar paper to get ready for the shingles.  These 3 guys worked super hard all day.  They di...

A trip to a local running store with a friend & A Training Update

Well, I finally did it!  It only took me over 4 years to do it but I finally was properly fitted for running shoes!!  (And it’s only taken me a month and a half to blog about it!!  Darn Garage project and heading back to school! LOL (see previous post for more of my excuses!)) On Tuesday, July 26, my awesome friend Michelle and I traveled to Fleet Feet Sports in Middleton.  Michelle and I work together at one of the middle schools I teach at.  She is honestly the best co-worker in the world!  We totally get each other which is awesome and makes going to work that much more enjoyable!  We taught summer school together but I haven’t seen her since summer school ended.  It was great catching up on things on the ride from Milton where she picked me up to Middleton.  I honestly haven’t laughed that much in probably 3 weeks!  It’s always great to hang out with my buddy!   Anyway, we arrived at the store and looked around for a bit ...

A Change in Mindset and Goals

Since reading The Magnolia Story and my experience with my wedding rings, I have changed my mindset about so many things.  One in particular being my obsession with running and working out.  I know that my running and working out is time-consuming and a lot of our free time revolves around my running schedule because I have set these lofty goals to run races and a certain number of miles in a year.  This has also caused me to be ridiculously burned out from running.  I have lost my love of it a little bit.  So to gain that back, the first thing I am doing is to NOT set a mileage goal for next year.  I still want to train and race, but I am going to follow my plans more and not overdo it as much just to chase a number.  I am going to run more for feel and for the freedom it gives me.  I am going to run with friends more.  I am going to make running fun and enjoyable again.  I’m going to concentrate on getting stronger with more stre...
