This week (Feb 20-27) I ended up running 50 miles!! WOW!!! I haven’t done that in awhile!! I’m going to thank some awful experiences and stress for that number this week. I am so thankful for running. It has helped me lose weight, but it has also helped me find myself. I make so many better choices because I run. Throughout the week, I could have turned to food to ease my troubles. I could have turned to alcohol to make these feelings go away. Instead, I turned to running. Yes, I am completely exhausted when I get home from school. Yes, I fall asleep with Maddie every night by 8:30. Yes, running takes me away from my family for a period of time. But, when I come back from a run, I feel exhilarated. I feel like I can conquer the world. I am a more attentive mom and wife. I cherish the moments I am with my kids. I don’t run to get away from my family. I run so that I can be around for my family. I am adding years to my life by giving myself the gift of health. Being outside running, breathing in fresh air, leaving all my problems and cares out on the pavement, allows for me to focus on my family and being present for them. They are also my biggest cheerleaders when I’m at a race. They are the reason I push myself so hard to be the best I can be. They are my why and they always will be.
I actually ran OUTSIDE for most of my runs this week!! I even ran outside Tuesday and Thursday morning at 4:30 am!!!! I got outside Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (twice!), Saturday, and again today (Sunday). Not to mention kicking some serious booty strength training Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I made my step goal every day except Friday, which is also the only day that I didn’t run this week. I actually came home and had a Skinny Girl Pina Colada Friday night. I had a really tough last couple hours at work and having run 11.5 miles on Thursday, I decided to sit at home and have a drink. Did it make me feel better? NO. Did it taste good? Yes. Was it worth it? Not really. I actually think it affected my run on Saturday. I think the alcohol, what little I had, didn’t help my energy on Saturday morning. I hardly ever drink any alcohol, so I’m thinking that’s part of the reason my run was so hard. I really have no idea if that’s true or not but that’s going to be my reason. I got an extra run on Monday outside for 3 miles which was cold but much needed. I broke out my reflective LED vest Tuesday and Thursday mornings for some great outside crack of dawn runs. I forgot how much I love running early in the morning in the fresh cold air! It was fantastic!! Then Thursday, I was feeling pretty beat, but everyone in my house left me, so I decided to crank out 5 miles while they were gone. We all got back home about the same time so that was awesome! So all these runs added up to 50 miles this week! With 15 miles this morning, I am hoping to get close to that again this week. Training starts March 7 for some halfs I have coming up in April and May, but I think I am pretty prepared already.
Pics from my runs this week. I was only on the treadmill twice this week!!!!
Strength training this week! Watching my muscles grow! My quads and calves are growing so much that I had to put 2 pairs of jeans downstairs in my rummage sale pile. No more GAP size 8 curvy jeans or skinny jeans for this girl! LOL My legs are just too darn muscular!! But I love it!!
Saturday night I got all my work done so I decided to give myself a fresh Jamicure!! These beauties are Satin Rose Gold Chevron. I am totally in love with them! Of course, I love all things Jamberry, but I rarely ever put just one design on my nails and this one is perfect!! I love Jamberry so much! (P.S. I’m looking to have more parties this year, so if you are looking for a great deal on some Jamberry wraps, hosting is party is just what you need!! Let me know!!)
We had a pretty quiet weekend, which was really nice after the last 2 busy weekends. I love staying at home and just chilling out with my family. I’m not a huge fan of traveling. I love being in my house with my people just enjoying the simple things! That’s what makes me happy (and running, of course!)
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready to kick some butt this week. I know I am!
Until next time, my friends!
Run on!!!!
Laura
