Feb. 15-21: Awesome Outdoor Running & Family Fun!

It’s been another stressful week of meetings at school. But running after work has truly been my savior.  I’ve pushed myself, I’ve been tired, I’ve been ornery, I’ve been a better mom and person after work because of it.  I am so thankful for the gift of running.  God has truly blessed me with this awesome gift and passion.  I am the mom, wife, teacher, person I want to be because of running and all that I do to be a better runner.  I am truly blessed.  I can have fun and be active with my family.  And that is what really matters the most.

My workouts have been really great this week too.  I’ve upped weights and really pushed myself to get the most out of my workouts with the time I had for them.  Here’s what my workout schedule looked like this week.

The weather this weekend has been amazing!  It was 40 degrees when I was out running Saturday morning.  Plus the sun was shining which totally made for an awesome run and the beginning to an awesome day!  After my run, we headed to Madison for the Mad City Rail Show!  We go every year and every year we see different things and different layouts that give us inspiration for our own train table.  Our table is constantly in the works.  This is hubby and son’s ongoing project.  One day they’ll be done with it!  My Grandfather collected, sold, and traded Lionel trains so we have a bunch to honor his memory.  I always feel something magical and sentimental when we’re at the train show.  This day was no exception.  Actually I felt Grandpa with me more than ever while we were there.  What was even more special was finding a caboose belt buckle and a tiny model 58 Edsel for our train table!  It was like it was absolutely meant to be today!  Seeing these kids having so much fun and smiling the whole time made it the perfect day.

This girl loves to read!  She read her Magic Tree House book on the way to the show and then on the way to Target and Pizza Ranch.

I love Pizza Ranch!!  They have the best pizza and chicken buffet that I have been too.  I always overdo it though when I eat there! But it is so worth it!!!  Luckily for me, I ran 11 miles and I made sure to eat pretty healthy throughout the day so that I could save my calories for this awesome dinner experience.  Plus I took 2 of my Hammer Nutrition Phytolean caplets that helps to block the absorption of fat in athletes during the offseason or when they are going to have a really carb/fat heavy meal.  I DO NOT take these every day.  That is not what they are for.  I only take them when I know I’m going to eat starchy foods that I normally wouldn’t eat a lot of.  I have taken them at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years so far.  I would like the think that they have helped me to not gain as much weight over the holidays and when I woke up this morning, I didn’t feel too horribly bloated like I would normally after such a heavy meal.  I’m going to keep using them in this fashion, which really isn’t a lot since I would rather just eat healthy foods most of the time so as not to worry about the bloating, but my family had planned this outing for dinner ever since we got the train show flyer in the mail!  It’s worth it for my family and I’m thankful that I have this little helper from Hammer Nutrition to help keep me on track and aid in my marathon training.

After Pizza Ranch we headed to Cabela’s since Jay had a gift card from Christmas to use.  I just about screamed when I walked into the store!  There was Luke Bryan standing in the men’s clothing section!!!!  He is one of my absolute favorite country singers!

IMG_1153.JPG
OK so Luke was just a cut-out and I am a total dork for taking a picture with a cut-out but this is probably the closest I will ever get to Luke Bryan.  And yes, that is my hubby in the background looking like he’s going to punch Luke.  I’m so glad we can goof around with each other like this after being married for 10 years!!  I wouldn’t want to laugh and joke around with anyone else.  I ended up totally passing out when we got home!  I think it was 8:30!!!  I’m so lame!  At least Jay was up with the kids playing video games for a while!!

Sunday morning waking up was a completely different story than Saturday!  I woke up at 6 am with a migraine!  I totally could have given in to my migraine and slept in but instead I took some meds, tried to sleep for a few more minutes, and then got up at 6:45.  I still had a bit of a migraine at that time, but I decided to get out and run!  I knew that sitting around all morning, drinking coffee would be fun, but would only make me angry.  I knew that if I didn’t get my run in, I would regret it and my family would suffer.  Running truly makes me happier and the endorphins help my migraine to go away.  The temps were cooler than yesterday and it was cloudy, but I wanted to push myself to get in 14 miles.  With my migraine, I totally had every excuse not to run this much.  I had plenty of excuses along the way as well.  I was tired.  My legs were tired from all the running and walking I did yesterday. But I knew I could do it.  I hit the wall several times on this run.  First at mile 6, then at mile 9, and again at mile 12.  At least at mile 12 I was fortunate enough to have some friends of ours drive by and honk at me.  That really helped with my motivation to make it the last few miles.  I totally needed that encouragement.  I came home and felt such relief and accomplishment.  I hadn’t run this far this year and to know that I could do it and that my endurance is getting back up there, made me feel so proud.  I totally earned some rest time and my delicious tacos for dinner tonight!  I made them with ground turkey so they were actually pretty healthy!

I had such an amazing week running and hanging out with my family.  There is nothing better than doing what you love and being able to spend quality time with your family.

I hope you all had an amazing week and this week is wonderful as well.

What do you love to do?  How do you spend time with your family?  What fun activities do you do together?

Until next time, my friends!

I may have a Serious Addiction!!!!

In the past 3 weeks I have ran 41, 45, and 46 miles!! Those are some crazy totals considering I would have been lucky to have a total of 20 miles a week back in October/November of last year! I definitely have my mojo back!! I keep wanting to push myself more and more with my running! My legs are feeling strong and powerful and I love it!! I am super proud of how far I have come with my running.  Back when I started running almost 3 years ago, I had a hard time running a full mile on the treadmill and it took me between 13-15 minutes to do it! I would get so down on myself, thinking that I would never be able to run a 10 minute mile! Now I can run that consistently for long distances, but I get down on myself when I can't maintain 9 minute miles for a 5K! I need to just be proud of myself for how far I have come with my running! I will get there! I'm just always in such a competiton with myself! I know I can I can do so much better with my nutrition so I am going to read this b...

Project: Garage 2016 Part 4: Trusses, roof work, framing, and a new back door

I am so stinking excited about the work that has been done on my garage this week!  I am so incredibly thankful for our builders (Hometown Remodeling, LLC)!  They have put in a lot of work and it has been incredibly hot this week.  I love the sun and I love to lay out in the sun, but even I didn’t want to go out this week!! Here’s what went down this week: Monday, July 18, 2016 :  The trusses were delivered while the kids and I were at swim lessons.  That was all that we thought was going to happen today.  Luckily the builders finished their other job up early and headed to our house to get started on setting the trusses.  They got about half of them set up before quitting for the day.   Tuesday, July 19, 2016 :  The builders arrived at 8:30 am to start on finishing the trusses, putting the wood down for the roof, and  tar paper to get ready for the shingles.  These 3 guys worked super hard all day.  They di...

Madison Marathon 2016

You guys!!!  I ran my second full marathon!!!  And I beat my time by 7 minutes!!!  I am still in shock several weeks later that I actually did it!  (And that it’s taken me this long to write about it!)  I didn’t quite make my ultimate goal of under 5 hours, but I was super close with a time of 5:04:03!!!  Can you believe it??? Here’s how it all went down: The family and I drove up to Madison on Friday night to get my packet at the Expo.  We hung around the Expo looking at the different booths, hanging out with fellow runners, and making signs. My kids made the greatest signs for me for race day! Such a pretty sight! There signs are so cute!  I love how supportive they are! We went to Pizza Ranch for dinner afterwards which is always a nice carb-loading trip.  I tell ya their pizza and chicken are the best.  We recently went to Mac’s Pizza Shack which is a local restaurant and their pizza is good but just not qui...
